The jungle trek- or why I love to travel with Joy!

We went on our full day jungle trek even though the previous night's torrential rain made the mountain trails treacherous with slippery mud and brought out the hungry leeches ( like inchworms that brush off onto passing people from the leaves, branches)
We were climbing up and down very rugged jungle mountain trailswith our guides looking for orangutans and other jungle animals. Back to why I love Joy--- after a few hours of climbing up and down slippery steep trails, as she noticed leeches had gotten through her socks, she actually said, " isn't this jungle amazing!"
This is low tourist season so we had two guides to ourselves. One guide with us and another scouting around for sightings. I'm not sure when we were actually on a path or just in the jungle because with a cell call from his partner (yes, cell call) we quickly we off the trail silently seeking wildlife. Very movie like and fun. We stopped for a yummy lunch served on a banana leave that was prepared by our guides wife that morning. The hike was hot, slippery, exhausting (8 hours). It was fascinating, exhilarating, and we saw another orangutan, Thomas Leaf Monkeys, and another monkey we cannot name.At the beginning of our trek the guide called us Joy and Gary. At the end he was offering a hand for balance on the steepest parts and calling us Mama and Papa. Hmmm...
We ended with a swim in our clothes and a raft ride on inner tubes tied together and poled through a mini rapids by a guide. Weeeeee!!!!!

  2. Holy cow, what another world. Can't believe we're on the same planet. I love the banana leaf plates. One bummer is that my wife, who has an eye for cute dishware, is probably going to want a set.
