But before the Ranger part....this morning we woke to the sound of hard rain. After a while it tapered off....then stopped. We put bear spray and two umbrellas in our backpack and went to the far side of Lake McDonald to hike. West Glacier had an extensive forest fire in 2003 that burned 1/3 of the park.
Regrowth is happening. This area was covered in millions of foot high seedlings.
The fire apparently charred the bark through on trees up to 100 ft tall. It later fell off in piles around the trees. I'm grinning like a fool because we got out into the fresh air, not because of a forest fire.
But, back to the Forest Ranger. He said "Don't Be Alarmed!! That yellow thing is called THE SUN. It makes the sky turn that blue color. Some cultures actually worship it!"
This happened at 5pm today. Weather reports said it might happen again tomorrow. (Could the jet stream be moving? Could LaNina have shifted?) We celebrated by getting out the grill for dinner! Hooray!!!
Woohoo!
